The DFW Car & Toy Museum has unveiled a remarkable automotive treasure: a rare 1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 Six-Door Pullman Limousine that showcases the pinnacle of mid-century automotive engineering and luxury.
This exceptional vehicle is among the most exclusive models in automotive history. Of the 428 long-wheelbase 600 Pullman limousines manufactured, only 42 were six-door configurations. Even more remarkably, this specific model is one of just 11 featuring both a factory sunroof and air conditioning.
The Mercedes-Benz 600, originally introduced at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, represented technological innovation with its advanced hydraulic system that powered nearly every vehicle function, including a self-leveling air suspension. Its sophisticated design and commanding presence made it the preferred transportation for world leaders, entertainment icons, and dignitaries.
This particular limousine has a unique provenance. Initially retained by Mercedes-Benz to transport visiting engineers and VIP guests, it was later sold to Klaus Kienle, a former head of major repairs and special vehicles at Mercedes-Benz who played a crucial role in the 600 series production.
Now part of the museum’s collection, the limousine has been meticulously maintained, with documented service from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center USA. While subtly upgraded with modern entertainment amenities, it retains its distinctive mid-century aesthetic.
The vehicle will be displayed at the museum’s new location at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, which is set to open in the first quarter of 2025. The museum, formerly known as The DFW Elite Toy Museum, offers free admission and houses over 150 collector cars and 3,000 antique automotive toys.
