Standard Lithium Secures $225M DOE Grant for Southwest Arkansas Lithium Project

Standard Lithium Ltd. has achieved significant progress on its Southwest Arkansas lithium project, securing a $225 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and obtaining unanimous approval for its first brine production unit. The project has been designated a priority under Executive Order 14241, which aims to boost American mineral production.

In collaboration with Equinor under the newly established Smackover Lithium joint venture, the company completed final field-pilot testing with an impressive lithium recovery rate exceeding 99%. The project represents a crucial step in developing sustainable, domestic lithium resources.

The company’s financial position remains strong, with $31.6 million in cash and no outstanding debt. Standard Lithium is positioned to pursue further permitting and royalty approvals in the second quarter of 2025.

The Southwest Arkansas Project is part of Standard Lithium’s strategic focus on developing high-grade lithium-brine properties in the United States. By leveraging the Smackover Formation, a world-class lithium-brine asset, the company is advancing commercial-scale lithium production through an integrated direct lithium extraction and purification process.

This development aligns with broader national efforts to establish a robust domestic mineral supply chain, particularly in critical minerals like lithium that are essential for emerging technologies and clean energy transitions.
