Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races Hosts the 2023 Charles Town Classic

Experience a day of racing, food, and entertainment for the whole family

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, a property of PENN Entertainment, today announced the 15th running of the Charles Town Classic is set for Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4:00-11:00 p.m. This year’s main event horse race once again pays out a $1,000,000 prize purse. Off the track, the event will offer food trucks, live bands, a beer garden, games, contests, pony rides and visits to a petting zoo for children. Admission to the outdoor event is free and open to all ages.

“The Charles Town Classic is our marquee event and it just gets bigger and better each year,” said Scott Saunders, general manager at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. “We are excited to welcome guests for a day of thrilling races, a delicious variety of food, and must-see live entertainment.”

Hitting the stage at 5:00 p.m. the live music shows will kick off with performances by New York City’s psych-soul rock group Ghost Funk Orchestra, Maryland’s beloved reggae rockers BALLYHOO!, and New Orleans funk-groove ensemble Dumpstaphunk. The food truck lineup features favorites from around the region: Rad Pies, Cookin’ With Greece, Stroker’s BBQ, Traditional Authentic Mexican Food, Blues Burgers & Wings, Snowball Waterfalls, and Papa’s Chicken & Ribs.

As a champion for the surrounding communities in West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland, Hollywood Casino is also using the event to highlight and support several charities. A donation of $20,000 will be presented to the WV Breast Health Initiative during the race. Others receiving support are the Jefferson County Animal Welfare Society and Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

“We are always excited and honored to be teaming up with our friends and supporters from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races,” said Donna DeHart, executive director of the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative. “Thanks to the support and generosity of the entire team, we can continue to help West Virginians receive breast cancer education, screenings and support.”

While admission is free, elevated VIP experience packages are available for purchase. The VIP Experience includes: reserved, tented seating with high tops and couches right in the middle of the action, an all-you-can-drink beverage menu, and a complimentary cigar. The Skyline Terrace Buffet Experience includes: a reserved table for the duration of the race, a buffet featuring all-you-can-eat prime rib and a selection of entrees, a personal TV at each dining table, and a welcome champagne toast. Although the Charles Town Classic is held outside and is open to all ages, any attendees entering the casino building itself must be at least 21 years of age.
