Nasya Bellard Awarded CCK Law’s ‘The Child of an American Veteran’ Scholarship

Nasya Bellard, a senior at Cox Mill High School and upcoming Syracuse University student, has been awarded the $1,500 ‘The Child of an American Veteran’ Scholarship from Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick LTD (CCK Law). The scholarship celebrates the accomplishments of veterans and their families, and Bellard’s family has a long history of service in the United States Navy.

Bellard’s essay highlights her great-grandmother’s role as one of the first black women in North Carolina to work as a World War II nurse, setting the stage for her family’s commitment to the Navy. Bellard plans to follow in her great-grandmother’s footsteps by pursuing a political science degree at Syracuse University and then joining the 4.5 percent of black lawyers practicing in the United States.

With a keen interest in real estate law, Bellard hopes to use her legal education to better serve her future clients and advocate for unhoused veterans, stating, ‘No one [who] has served our country should sleep on the streets.’ The $1,500 scholarship from CCK Law will help alleviate financial stress as she begins her freshman year at Syracuse University, allowing her to focus on her studies and potentially graduate early to kickstart her graduate career.

The scholarship selection committee at CCK Law commends Bellard’s eloquence, dedication, and commitment to her future, recognizing that her experience as a child of veterans will undoubtedly propel her towards success. The attorneys at Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick are proud to award Bellard with this year’s scholarship and look forward to reading the essays of future applicants who follow her example.
