The award recognizes medical professionals conducting innovative research on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.
Upon receiving the prestigious award, Dr. Galle expressed his gratitude, stating, ‘I am truly honored to receive the Blue Faery Award. Dr. Galle, who received his M.D. from Marburg University and Ph.D. from Heidelberg University, has held notable positions, including Director of the I. Medical Department in Mainz and presidencies of various medical societies focused on digestive diseases and liver research. His research primarily concentrates on the clinical and molecular aspects of HCC.
Andrea Wilson Woods, President of Blue Faery, emphasized the significance of Dr. Galle’s work, stating, ‘Dr. Galle is our third international award recipient, and his research improves the lives of all HCC patients. Liver cancer is one of the most common and deadliest cancers worldwide.’ Andrea founded Blue Faery in honor of her sister Adrienne, who passed away from HCC at the age of 15.
Blue Faery’s mission is to prevent, treat, and cure primary liver cancer through research, education, and advocacy. The organization hosts an online Liver Cancer Community for patients and caregivers and provides free comprehensive patient education with its Patient Resource Guides for Liver Cancer.
