Winkler Lowy Foundation Renews Commitment to Broadening Access to Jewish Summer Camp

The Winkler Lowy Foundation founded by Janine Lowy announced this week that it has renewed its funding commitment to the Masah Incentive Grant at Camp Ramah, a Jewish summer camp in Ojai, Calif.

The Masah Incentive Grant, which the Winker Lowy Foundation has supported for the last four years, makes the Camp Ramah experience more accessible to campers of all backgrounds. The grant provides a subsidy to Tzophim, Kochavim and Machon (rising 9th-11th grade) campers, as well as 14-16-year-old Amitzim campers.

“Camp Ramah is a transformative experience that allows young Jews to explore and connect with their Jewish identities in the company of lifelong friends and natural beauty,” said Janine Winkler Lowy, founder of the Winkler Lowy Foundation. “Broadening access to Camp Ramah is a critical way for our local Jewish community to invest in a vibrant and robust Jewish future in Southern California.”

Research has found that campers who complete a Camp Ramah experience are more likely to have strong Jewish friendships, engage in Jewish rituals, and call Judaism and Israel central to their identity for years to come.

Janine Winkler Lowy is a Jewish philanthropist and advocate based in Los Angeles. Lowy’s four children are proud Camp Ramah alumni.
