Schiller Kessler Group Awards Healing Journey Scholarship to Aspiring Pediatric Nurse

The Schiller Kessler Group has announced Parker Shubin as the recipient of its Healing Journey Scholarship. Shubin, who was diagnosed with a pilocytic astrocytoma brain tumor at age five, has undergone 14 brain surgeries and years of chemotherapy, yet maintains focus on his education and community service. The scholarship supports his goal of becoming a pediatric nurse, allowing him to pursue studies without financial stress.

‘This scholarship will allow me to pursue my education to become a registered nurse without the added stress of funding my studies,’ Shubin said. ‘I’ve been on the receiving end of world-class care, and now I want to give that same level of care to others.’ Shubin is completing prerequisites at Moorpark College in California and has applied to Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs, with aspirations to work at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he has received treatment for 15 years.

His commitment extends beyond academics through volunteer work as a Care Extender at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he assists nurses and comforts patients with conditions similar to his own. Shubin has also participated in organizations like the American Cancer Society on Campus and Synapse at UCLA, connecting with other survivors. He notes that pediatric nurses taught him how small acts of kindness significantly impact patients during difficult recovery periods, learning from a mentor that ‘sometimes, just being there is enough.’

The Schiller Kessler Group established the scholarship to support individuals demonstrating resilience and commitment to helping others. The firm, which provides legal representation to personal injury victims, emphasizes its dedication to improving lives beyond the courtroom.
