Greenland Mines Secures Australian Patent for Klotho Gene Therapy Platform, Bolstering ALS Treatment Efforts

Greenland Mines Ltd (NASDAQ: GRML) has announced that IP Australia has granted Australian Patent No. 2023252508, covering gene therapy technology exclusively licensed by the company’s Biotech Division. The patent strengthens the intellectual property supporting Greenland Mines’ Klotho-based therapeutic platform, which is being developed for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases through expression of the human Klotho protein.

The patent includes claims covering gene therapy constructs, neuronal and induced pluripotent stem cells, and viral and non-viral delivery systems. According to the company, the patent further supports development of its KLTO-202 program targeting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular disorders. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, for which there is currently no cure.

The Australian patent adds to Greenland Mines’ growing IP portfolio for its Klotho platform, which the company believes has broad therapeutic potential. The platform is based on the Klotho protein, which has been linked to longevity and protection against age-related diseases. By expressing the human Klotho protein, the gene therapy aims to slow or halt disease progression in ALS patients.

Greenland Mines is a Nasdaq-listed company with two operating divisions: Mining and Biotech. The Mining division focuses on the exploration and development of the Skaergaard Project in southeast Greenland, and subject to closing of a previously announced transaction, the Sarfartoq neodymium-praseodymium (Nd-Pr) rare earths project in southwest Greenland. The Biotech division includes Klotho’s KLTO-202 primary indication for ALS.

The company’s strategy is centered on building a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals and selected midstream processing opportunities, while advancing its broader North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor vision linking Greenland resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure.
