Kennedale, Texas, now has its first dedicated dog park, Sturgeon Bark Park, located at 6729 Oakcrest Drive East. The park was made possible through a generous donation from Ron Sturgeon, who commissioned the park and its design to provide a much-needed resource for area residents. Garret Davis of Davis Commercial Services coordinated the project, bringing it from concept to completion.
The park features separate areas for large and small dogs, fire hydrants and toys for play, a water fountain, picnic tables, and a canopy that provides shade and a comfortable gathering place for dog owners. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening, attended by Sturgeon, local representatives, community members, and plenty of excited dogs.
Darrell Hull, Kennedale city manager, expressed gratitude at the grand opening. “I am so proud to accept and open our first dog park, and give heartfelt thanks to Mr. Sturgeon, as he gave us this for our citizens to enjoy with their pets, and for his help as we redevelop parts of the city.”
The park addresses a long-standing need in Kennedale. Previously, residents had to travel outside the city to find a dedicated space for their dogs to exercise and socialize. With the opening of Sturgeon Bark Park, locals now have a safe, welcoming outdoor space close to home. The park also serves as a community hub, encouraging neighbors to meet, socialize, and spend time outdoors together.
The donation by Sturgeon highlights a trend of private contributions filling gaps in public amenities. As cities grow, such partnerships can accelerate the development of community resources. For Kennedale, the park is expected to enhance quality of life for pet owners and foster a stronger sense of community.
Community members are invited to bring their four-legged friends to Sturgeon Bark Park at 6729 Oakcrest Drive East, Kennedale, TX 76140. A video of the grand opening is available at Sturgeon Bark Park Grand Opening.
The park marks an important milestone for Kennedale, providing a dedicated, dog-friendly destination and a space where neighbors can connect. As the city redevelops, this park represents a step forward in creating amenities that serve both residents and their pets.
