ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Surpasses 2028 Carbon Intensity Target Three Years Early

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) announced in its 2025 ESG Report that it has surpassed its 2028 carbon intensity reduction target three years early, achieving a 70.5% reduction from the 2021 baseline. The Singapore-headquartered data centre provider attributed the milestone to disciplined execution of its sustainability strategy, which includes 83.2% renewable energy usage across its global operations.

The report, published on July 21, 2026, highlights that STT GDC reduced absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 15.2% year-on-year while improving Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by 13.0% from the 2020 baseline to an average of 1.44. Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) improved by 41.2% from the 2020 baseline, reflecting a balanced approach to managing energy and water use in cooling systems. Additionally, 48% of its data centres have achieved green building certification.

Bruno Lopez, President and Group Chief Executive Officer, emphasized that responsible scaling is a commercial and operational imperative. “The next phase of digital growth will be defined by how the industry resolves the tension between rising demand — particularly from AI — and the finite nature of energy, water and land,” he said. “Our 2025 progress reflects disciplined execution of a strategy we have been advancing for years.”

STT GDC’s environmental achievements are part of a broader ESG framework that also addresses social and governance aspects. The company maintained zero work-related fatalities and a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.1 across more than 41 million hours worked. Employees received an average of 18 training hours, and women representation stood at 21.7%. The company expanded talent development initiatives, including the DC Power Up programme and partnerships with 10 Institutes of Higher Learning.

On the governance front, STT GDC reported that 100% of employees completed anti-corruption training. The company enhanced enterprise-wide risk management by incorporating climate, cybersecurity and operational risks into planning. It also held its inaugural Group ESG Summit to align priorities across markets.

The report underscores the growing pressure on data centre operators to deliver capacity while managing energy, water, climate and cybersecurity risks. STT GDC’s approach integrates ESG considerations into capital allocation, site selection, design, operations and risk management.
