Rubean AG, a Munich-based fintech company, announced today that its SoftPOS payment acceptance software is now active on more than 150,000 terminals, nearly doubling the figure of approximately 80,000 from early July 2025. The rapid growth underscores the company’s optimistic financial projections disclosed at its recent annual shareholders’ meeting.
“The significant increase in user numbers underscores our recently published forecast regarding the Rubean Group’s revenue and earnings performance,” said Co-CEO Jochen Pielage. At the shareholders’ meeting in early July, the Executive Board projected consolidated revenue for 2026 to reach between €5.0 million and €6.0 million, up from €3.71 million in the previous year. Recurring revenue is expected to more than double in 2026, with the company targeting monthly breakeven by 2027 and its first full-year positive net income.
Rubean’s software replaces traditional card readers by turning smartphones into payment terminals, eliminating the need for additional hardware. This approach has made the company a market leader in Germany and Spain, enabling small and large retailers, the food service industry, and delivery services to accept cashless and mobile payments. The SoftPOS solution, called PhonePOS, supports girocard (EC card) in Germany, a feature unique among softPOS providers.
The company’s growth trajectory is reflected in its financial outlook. Co-CEO Stephan Kuck emphasized, “Thanks to the continued significant growth in the use of our SoftPOS app, we will reach monthly breakeven in 2027 and close the entire year with a positive net income for the first time.” This milestone would mark a turning point for Rubean, which has been investing heavily in expanding its user base and market presence.
Rubean’s technology is used by payment service providers, major banks, retailers, and large retail chains across Europe. The ability to deploy software-only point-of-sale solutions without logistical overhead has proven attractive in a market increasingly shifting toward contactless and mobile payments. As the number of active terminals continues to climb, Rubean is positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for flexible payment acceptance options.
