U.S. Term Limits announced today that former Texas State Representative Jarvis Johnson has agreed to serve as Texas State Co-Chair for the organization, joining the effort to enact term limits for members of Congress. Johnson, who served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2016 to 2025 and previously on the Houston City Council, brings more than three decades of public service and community leadership to the campaign.
Johnson expressed his commitment to the cause, stating, “I am honored to serve as Texas State Co-Chair for U.S. Term Limits and help advance this important cause. Americans are frustrated with a Congress that has become increasingly disconnected from the people it serves. Congressional term limits will help restore accountability, encourage citizen leadership, and bring fresh ideas and new energy to our nation’s capital.”
The former lawmaker emphasized that term limits align with the Founding Fathers’ vision, arguing that prolonged tenure in office leads to a focus on preserving power rather than solving problems. “Our Founding Fathers never intended public office to become a lifetime career,” Johnson said. “When elected officials remain in office for decades, Washington becomes more focused on preserving political power than solving the problems facing hardworking Americans. Term limits will help ensure that elected officials remain focused on serving the people rather than serving themselves.”
Johnson’s legislative career included championing bills on public education, mental health, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity. He helped secure more than $2.1 billion in investments for flood control, infrastructure, historically Black colleges and universities, and neighborhood revitalization. Prior to his state service, he was one of the youngest elected to the Houston City Council, representing District B.

Johnson’s role as Texas State Co-Chair is expected to build momentum for the reform effort in a state that has historically championed limited government.
