Beverage companies are increasingly investing in recyclable fiber-based carriers to comply with tightening environmental regulations and retailer sustainability requirements. Food remains the dominant end-use segment, representing 58.0% of demand, supported by soft drinks, dairy beverages, bottled water, and alcoholic beverages sold in multipack formats. Pouches are projected to capture 27.0% of format demand, while grease-resistant features will hold 15.0% market share.

Despite the positive outlook, moisture exposure remains a challenge, as variations in board performance can affect handle strength and folding integrity during chilled distribution. However, advanced fiber technologies are enabling thinner yet stronger carrier structures that reduce material consumption while maintaining transport performance.

Regionally, South Korea leads growth with a projected CAGR of 12.4% from 2026 to 2036, followed by China at 11.5% and India at 10.6%. The United States is expected to grow at 9.7%, supported by mature paper recycling infrastructure and advanced beverage packaging operations. Japan and Germany are forecast to grow at 8.7% and 7.8%, respectively, with emphasis on wet-strength performance and certified fiber sourcing.

In the same month, Metsä Board documented Olutmylly’s recyclable V6-engine paperboard six-pack carrier for chilled beverages, and Mondi expanded its fiber-based multipack portfolio in November 2025.
