When severe storms damaged the gutters on Jerry Townsley’s barn in Greater Cincinnati, the military veteran reached out to Rooftop Relief, a local roofing contractor, to inquire about a Veteran discount for the repair. Instead, the company’s co-founders decided to replace the entire seamless gutter system at no cost, honoring Townsley’s decades of service in the Navy, Air Force, and civil service.
Townsley, a Milford High School graduate from the Class of 1961, served four years on active duty in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal (CVA-59). He then spent 20 years in the United States Air Force at Rickenbacker Air Force Base. In addition to his military career, Townsley dedicated 39 years to civil service, culminating in a lifetime of contributions to his community and country.
After the storm damage, Townsley contacted Rooftop Relief to ask about a Veteran discount. Co-founders Jerry Vineyard and Ryan Collins, upon learning of Townsley’s distinguished record, felt a discount was insufficient. “When Mr. Townsley called us asking for a Veteran discount after severe storm damage tore up his barn’s gutters, Ryan and I looked at his decades of service in the Navy, Air Force, and civil service and knew right away—a discount wasn’t enough,” Vineyard said. “Replacing his gutters completely free of charge was the least we could do to show our gratitude.”
This donation marks the latest expansion of Rooftop Relief’s annual Veteran roof donation Greater Cincinnati initiative. The company, an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, is known for storm damage inspections, residential roof replacements, and seamless gutter installations.
“Our annual Veteran program started with roofs, but stories like Jerry Townsley’s remind us that home protection involves the complete exterior,” Collins added. “Whether it’s a storm-damaged roof or seamless gutters on a barn, we want to ensure our local Veterans have safe, durable structures protecting their property.”
Rooftop Relief encourages residents across Loveland and the Greater Cincinnati area to nominate deserving Veterans for future free roofing and exterior repair projects under the annual program. Nominations can be submitted through the company’s website.
