A community-wide effort to address food insecurity in Middlesex County brought together residents, volunteers, and local organizations on August 5 for “Flood the Food Banks,” a countywide food drive that collected an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of food for 13 local food pantries and food banks.
The initiative was organized in partnership with Middlesex United Way as part of its Middlesex Pantry Project, an ongoing effort to strengthen local food pantries and ensure year-round access to nutritious food. The one-day drive saw donations of non-perishable staples such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned tuna and chicken, and mac and cheese at participating grocery stores and community locations throughout the county.
The Flood Law Firm served as the presenting partner, helping raise awareness and encouraging community participation. The firm’s attorneys and staff volunteered, interacted with residents, and contributed directly to organizations fighting food insecurity. Brian Flood, a partner at the firm, emphasized the importance of giving back: “Giving back to the communities where we live, work, and serve our clients is an important part of who we are. Flood the Food Banks brought our team together with Middlesex United Way and community members for a meaningful effort that will help support families and individuals throughout Middlesex County.”
The event also received local media coverage, including reporting from WTNH on the food drive and a sponsored feature highlighting the partnership. The results demonstrate the impact of community collaboration, with thousands of pounds of food and hundreds of dollars in financial contributions reaching organizations serving Middlesex County residents.
The timing of the drive was deliberate: while charitable giving often spikes during the holidays, food pantries serve individuals and families in need throughout the year. By coordinating a summer donation effort, the initiative aimed to replenish supplies and support pantries during a period when donations typically decline. This is crucial for maintaining a stable food supply for the county’s most vulnerable residents.
The Flood Law Firm, founded in 2012 by brothers Brian and Chris Flood, is a Connecticut personal injury law firm. While its primary mission is advocating for individuals harmed through no fault of their own, the firm has consistently engaged in community service. This food drive is part of a broader commitment to the communities where its clients live and work. The firm’s involvement helped amplify the reach of the event, leveraging its network and resources to encourage widespread participation.
The success of “Flood the Food Banks” underscores the power of local partnerships in tackling social issues. By uniting a law firm, a nonprofit, and community members, the drive not only provided immediate relief but also highlighted the ongoing need for support. As food insecurity remains a persistent challenge, initiatives like this serve as a model for how local organizations can collaborate to make a tangible difference.
