BEDFORD, N.H. — Young’s Excavating & Paving LLC has finished parking lot repairs and resurfacing for Summit Title Services at 120 Bedford Center Road, covering approximately 10,075 square feet. The project, completed in May 2026, involved more than just laying new asphalt; it addressed specific areas where the pavement had visibly dropped, indicating deeper issues that needed correction before the final surface could be applied.
The two problem areas, each roughly four feet by three feet, were caused by water infiltration through joints and cracks, which weakened the base material beneath the pavement. Over time, freeze-thaw cycles exacerbated the condition, leading to the visible settlement. Simply overlaying these spots would have hidden the problem temporarily, but the same areas would likely sink again, making a more thorough repair necessary.
Young’s approach involved saw-cutting and removing the damaged asphalt at both locations, then paving the repaired areas with three inches of new asphalt before the surrounding lot received its overlay. This method ensures that the underlying issue is resolved, providing a stable foundation for the new surface.
In addition to the spot repairs, the project included transitional milling, which grinds down the existing pavement where the new asphalt meets the old, ensuring a smooth tie-in without a raised lip. The rest of the lot received a full overlay, including cleaning and preparation, a tack coat, a base layer of asphalt, and a two-inch wearing course—the top layer exposed to traffic and weather.
