VOCIC has introduced the U32 Ultra Lightweight Manual Wheelchair, a foldable, self-propelled wheelchair designed to simplify everyday mobility for seniors, caregivers, and families. The wheelchair features a 23 lb aluminum frame and a total weight of 35 lb including wheels and leg rests, making it a practical alternative to traditional manual wheelchairs that can be heavy and cumbersome.
For many families, a wheelchair is more than just for medical appointments; it becomes part of daily life, used for moving between rooms, transferring from bed to chair, loading into a car trunk, and navigating narrow hallways. The U32 aims to address these needs with a lightweight foldable frame, quick-release rear wheels, adjustable caregiver handles, flip-up armrests, swing-in/out footrests, and a safety-focused braking system.
“Everyday mobility should feel less complicated for both the user and the caregiver,” said Michael, CEO at VOCIC. “The U32 was designed around the real moments families manage every day, from getting through a doorway to transferring beside a bed, loading the chair into a vehicle, or heading out for an appointment.”
Traditional manual wheelchairs often present challenges in real home environments. Heavy frames are difficult to lift or transport, bulky folding sizes take up too much storage space, and fixed armrests and footrests can hinder transfers. Push handles may force caregivers to bend, and limited control features can be problematic. The U32 was developed to reduce these frustrations.
The lightweight aluminum frame weighs 23 lb, with a total weight of 35 lb. It folds to a compact 12.6″ x 26.8″ size, and the quick-release rear wheels can be removed for even tighter storage. This portability is especially beneficial for caregivers who regularly load and unload the wheelchair.
Transfers are a critical aspect of wheelchair use. The U32 includes flip-up armrests and swing-in/out footrests to create a clearer transfer path, reducing obstructions. Height-adjustable armrests and adjustable footplates allow users to better match the chair to their body position, while the 17.7″ wide by 17″ deep seat with a breathable cushion supports comfort.
Caregiver-friendly features include rear push handles with four height adjustments (approximately 37″ to 40.5″/40.6″), allowing caregivers of different heights to push comfortably. A rear stepper tube helps tilt the wheelchair over small curbs or obstacles. The U32 also offers both user-operated hand brakes and caregiver-operated handle brakes, giving both sides control.
Safety features include rear reflectors for visibility, a safety belt, an anti-tip device, and a reinforced Double-X Base frame for stability. These are designed to support safer daily use when properly adjusted and operated according to the user manual.
The U32’s narrow frame, with an overall width below 25.6 inches, helps it move through standard doorways and tight corridors. It is suitable for various scenarios, including moving between rooms, doctor appointments, family visits, car transfers, and indoor navigation.
For seniors and families seeking a manual wheelchair that is easier to fold, carry, adjust, and use in daily routines, the U32 offers a practical balance of lightweight design and everyday support. It reflects the idea that mobility support should fit real homes, real routines, and real family care.
