Energy Fuels Completes Acquisition of Australian Strategic Materials, Bolstering Western Rare Earth Supply Chain

Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading producer of rare earth elements, uranium, and other critical materials, has completed its acquisition of Australian Strategic Materials Limited (ASM), a move that significantly expands its capabilities in the rare earth supply chain. The acquisition, announced today, adds ASM’s operating Korean Metals Plant in South Korea, which has an existing production capacity of 1,300 tonnes per year of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) alloy, a key component in permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other clean energy technologies.

The Korean Metals Plant also possesses commercial metallization capabilities for neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr), another critical rare earth material. Energy Fuels plans to expand the plant’s NdFeB alloy capacity to 3,600 tonnes annually, with commissioning expected as early as the end of 2026. This expansion aligns with the company’s strategy to build an integrated Western mine-to-magnet supply chain, reducing reliance on China, which currently dominates global rare earth processing.

In addition to the Korean facility, the acquisition brings ASM’s Dubbo project in Australia, a long-life resource of rare earths and other critical minerals. This project adds to Energy Fuels’ existing portfolio, which includes its White Mesa Mill in Utah, where the company produces NdPr, terbium, and dysprosium oxides, as well as heavy mineral sands projects in Brazil, Australia, and Madagascar. The combined platform now spans mining, processing, oxides, metals, and alloys, positioning Energy Fuels as a comprehensive supplier in the rare earth market.

The completion of this acquisition is a strategic step toward addressing the growing demand for rare earth elements in the West, particularly for defense and clean energy applications. According to industry analysts, securing a domestic supply chain for these materials is critical for national security and economic stability. Energy Fuels’ move is seen as a proactive measure to ensure that Western manufacturers have access to reliable sources of rare earth metals and alloys, which are essential for the production of high-performance magnets.

Energy Fuels’ planned acquisition of Vacuumschmelze (VAC), a permanent magnet manufacturer, would further extend the company’s capabilities into magnet production, completing the final link in the mine-to-magnet chain. This integration would allow Energy Fuels to supply finished magnets directly to manufacturers, potentially reducing costs and improving supply chain resilience.

The transaction has been completed, and ASM shares have been delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange. Energy Fuels has not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition, but the company has emphasized the strategic value of the deal in its press release. The company’s shares trade on the NYSE American under the ticker UUUU and on the TSX under EFR.

This acquisition comes at a time when governments and industries worldwide are seeking to diversify their supply chains for critical minerals. The United States and its allies have been particularly focused on reducing dependence on China, which controls a significant portion of global rare earth mining and processing. Energy Fuels’ expanded platform is expected to play a key role in these efforts, offering a Western alternative for rare earth materials.
