Glocoms Inc. is expanding its presence in specialized federal healthcare services through an aerospace medicine engagement supporting the Defense Language Institute-English Language Center (DLIELC) at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. The engagement, outlined in a federal Performance Work Statement, calls for an experienced Aerospace Medicine Physician, also known as a Flight Surgeon, to provide medical expertise, consultation, and program oversight to the Air Education and Training Command (AETC).
The role is critical in a training environment where aerospace medicine, physical standards, medical certification, and operational readiness intersect. The physician will support DLIELC’s Flight Medicine and Physical Standards Branch, applying physical standards, managing certification actions and waivers, and conducting operational risk analysis for Force Development Exception to Policy processes.
This engagement extends beyond traditional clinical duties. The physician will provide consultation on the management and oversight of aeromedical programs across AETC’s DLIELC, including medical evaluations, waiver adjudication, physical evaluations, and fitness-for-duty determinations. The scope also includes advising DLIELC leadership on the Aerospace Medicine Enterprise across 11 AETC bases, covering aerospace, occupational, environmental, preventive medicine, and public health programs.
A significant component involves case review and risk assessment for Force Development Exception to Policy board proceedings. The physician may review medical records, coordinate with healthcare providers, and consult with the Aeromedical Consultation Service at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine. Additionally, the role includes quality control of Flying Class physical waivers through the Aeromedical Information Management Waiver Tracking System, and consultation on the Personnel Reliability Assurance Program, Public Health Emergency Officer plans, and Base Operational Medicine Clinic implementation.
The specialized nature of the assignment underscores the need for qualified aerospace medicine expertise. The PWS requires a physician with an M.D. or D.O. degree, relevant aerospace medicine credentials, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, and senior or chief flight surgeon credentials, along with an active U.S. medical license and recent experience as a military aerospace medicine specialist.
Performance must align with standards from The Joint Commission, the Air Force Inspection Agency’s Health Services Inspection, and current Air Force Medical Service guidelines. The PWS sets high performance thresholds, including a 99% monthly compliance rate for key services such as consultation, case review, and waiver quality control.
Security and information protection are integral. Contractor personnel must comply with Air Force and Department of Defense security, privacy, and information assurance requirements. A HIPAA Business Associate Agreement governs the use of protected health information.
