Regentis Biomaterials CEO Outlines U.S. Pivotal Study and European Commercialization Plans for GelrinC

Regentis Biomaterials Ltd. (NYSE American: RGNT) is advancing its regenerative medicine platform with its lead product GelrinC(R), a cell-free, off-the-shelf hydrogel implant designed to treat cartilage injuries in the knee. Executive Chairman and CEO Dr. Ehud Geller provided an update on the company’s progress during an appearance on The BioMedWire Podcast, according to a press release.

GelrinC is already approved for marketing in Europe and is currently undergoing a U.S. pivotal clinical trial. Geller said Regentis is working to expand clinical sites and aims to complete patient enrollment around year-end. The trial is a critical step toward potential U.S. regulatory approval.

The company estimates a U.S. market of approximately 470,000 currently untreated cases of cartilage knee repair annually. According to Regentis, no off-the-shelf treatment is currently available for these patients. GelrinC aims to fill that gap by offering an off-the-shelf solution that regenerates damaged tissue. The hydrogel is designed to be eroded and resorbed in the knee, allowing surrounding cells to regenerate cartilage in a controlled and synchronous process.

In addition to the U.S. trial, Regentis is pursuing European commercialization. Geller noted that the company is in discussions with distribution systems and major orthopedic companies to advance market penetration in Europe. These partnerships could accelerate access to GelrinC for patients and generate revenue while the U.S. trial continues.

The regenerative medicine field is growing rapidly, and Regentis’ platform technology, based on synchronized, degradable hydrogel implants, could have applications beyond knee cartilage. The company’s initial focus is on orthopedic treatments, but the Gelrin platform may be adapted to regenerate other damaged or diseased tissues, including inflamed cartilage and bone.

For investors, the progress of GelrinC represents a key milestone. The completion of enrollment in the U.S. pivotal study would bring Regentis closer to a potential market entry in the world’s largest healthcare market. Meanwhile, European commercialization efforts could provide early revenue and validate the technology. The company’s shares trade on the NYSE American under the ticker RGNT.
