Halacy emphasizes that the novel is not about the mechanics of time travel but about emotional truth. “Unlike many speculative fiction novels that prioritize mechanics and spectacle, this story uses alternate realities to explore emotional truth, psychological healing, and the human struggle with regret and identity,” he explains. “It’s not just about the existence of alternate timelines as a plot device, it’s how that element is used to explore deeply personal emotional realities.”
Those realities are informed by Halacy’s background. A graduate in Marriage and Family Studies, he has worked in family support services with individuals navigating crisis and healing. His understanding of resilience and trauma recovery provides a foundation for the novel’s high-concept premise.
For Halacy, writing began as a personal outlet. “I had a rough childhood,” he shares. “Writing was initially an outlet that allowed me to express what could not always be said aloud.” Over time, he came to see storytelling as a means to inspire and connect. That conviction permeates Psych Rift, which asks whether erasing pain would truly heal us or merely alter the people we have become.
The stakes escalate when the Rift attracts a ruthless CEO who sees the technology as a weapon rather than a tool for healing. Suddenly, the ability to rewrite one person’s past threatens to become far more dangerous.
