Vinhomes Green Paradise, a 2,870-hectare coastal urban development in Can Gio, Vietnam, has been recognized by New7Wonders as the first Official Participant worldwide in its “7 Wonders of Future Cities” campaign. The announcement, made via Media OutReach Newswire, positions the project as a global benchmark for cities designed to coexist with nature, with the campaign’s global voting phase scheduled to open on October 31, 2026.
The recognition matters because it signals a shift in how future cities are conceived. As urbanization accelerates and climate pressures mount, urban developments are increasingly judged on their ability to regenerate natural systems rather than merely minimize harm. Vinhomes Green Paradise, which borders the UNESCO-recognized 75,000-hectare Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, devotes only 16% of its land to buildings, leaving substantial space for greenery and water, anchored by an 800-hectare natural saltwater lagoon.
New7Wonders evaluates candidates across three pillars: Environment & Nature, Smart Cities, and People-Centered Development. The project integrates IoT, big data, and AI for urban management and environmental monitoring. Its people-centered approach includes an ecosystem of internationally oriented healthcare through Vinmec’s collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, education via Vinschool and Brighton College, senior living through Vin New Horizon, and leisure amenities such as the 7-hectare Blue Waves Theatre, two 18-hole golf courses, and the 122-hectare VinWonders complex.
Jean-Paul de la Fuente, Director of New7Wonders and Chairman of the campaign, said Vinhomes Green Paradise fulfills the campaign’s key criteria and reflects the pioneering mission of a leading Asian corporation delivering on its ESG commitments and beyond. He described the certification as a symbolic moment for the campaign and an opportunity to witness an exceptional urban environment where nature, people, and technology are integrated in harmony.
Beyond conventional sustainability, the project is pioneering an enhanced ESG++ framework built on five pillars: Environmental, Social, Governance, Regeneration, and Climate Adaptation. During construction, K-DPM technology transforms soft soil and dredged sediment into durable fill material, reducing indirect emissions and reliance on natural sand extraction. Once operational, the urban system targets 100% clean electricity from offshore wind farms 20 kilometers off the coast, complemented by solar power and battery storage. Internal mobility is designed around a net-zero-emission model with electric vehicles, buses, bicycles, and boats, plus a high-speed rail link to central Ho Chi Minh City.
A Forest Regeneration and Climate Adaptation Fund has been established to support long-term research and restoration of the Can Gio mangrove forest, strengthening its role as a green shield. The project is pursuing BREEAM and ISO 37122 certifications to become a global ESG++ reference point. Nguyen Thu Hang, CEO of Vinhomes, said the three pillars are not only key strengths for the campaign but also guiding principles for creating a world-class urban landmark and a distinctive living environment for global citizens.
The initiative reflects a broader trend: a report by the One Ocean Foundation notes that about 70% of the world’s largest megacities lie within 60 kilometers of the coast and generate nearly half of global GDP while facing growing climate risks. Coastal cities have significant potential to lead climate action through sustainable planning and nature-based solutions, an approach mirrored in Vinhomes Green Paradise’s strategy. As the first Official Participant, the project is emerging as an Asian representative on a global journey to explore what future cities can become.
