HMS Bergbau AG Reports Revenue of EUR 1.1 Billion and EBITDA of EUR 22.5 Million for First Half of 2026

German commodities trading and marketing company HMS Bergbau AG (ISIN: DE0006061104, WKN: 606110) published its final figures for the first half of 2026 on September 30, confirming preliminary results and reporting a substantial year-on-year increase in both revenue and earnings. Revenue rose from EUR 0.64 billion in the prior-year period to EUR 1.1 billion on an IFRS basis, while EBITDA including one-off items climbed from EUR 8.4 million to EUR 22.5 million. Adjusted for one-off effects of EUR 8.4 million related to the first-time consolidation of South African mining company Hoshoza Resources Vryheid, operating EBITDA stood at EUR 14.1 million.

The company noted that because it prepared its accounts under the German Commercial Code (HGB) in the previous year, the half-year figures are only comparable to a limited extent. The growth momentum came primarily from HMS’s traditional bulk commodities business and its liquid fuels and lubricants segment, which was established in 2025. HMS benefited from sustained high demand for coal products in emerging and developing economies. The International Energy Agency now expects global coal consumption to rise by 1.2 percent to almost 9 billion tonnes this year, reversing its earlier forecast of a slight decline for 2026.

Beyond coal, HMS significantly expanded its activities in metal ores and, during the first half, brought its metallurgical coal mines in Botswana and South Africa into operation. The company also continued to expand its liquid fuels business. Regional crises in the Middle East and their impact on global energy supply had no negative effect on HMS’s business.

The results underscore HMS’s position as one of Germany’s leading independent commodity trading firms. The company’s core business spans international trade in coal products, liquid fuels, ores, cement and other commodities, as well as production through majority and minority holdings in mining companies. Its customers include international industrial companies, energy traders and producers supplied worldwide. With activities across Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America, HMS has direct access to high-quality commodity reserves and an extensive global network.

The full 2026 half-year report is available for download on the company’s website, www.hms-ag.com, under the Investor Relations section. The original release is also available via www.newmediawire.com.

The strong half-year performance highlights HMS’s ability to capitalize on rising global coal demand and diversify into new commodity segments, positioning it for continued growth despite geopolitical uncertainties.
