Quantum BioPharma Co-Founder Details Lucid-MS Phase 2 Trial and unbuzzd Commercial Prospects on BioMedWire Podcast

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) is advancing its lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, into a Phase 2 clinical trial for multiple sclerosis, according to comments made by co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz on The BioMedWire Podcast. Durkacz, who returned to the podcast, said the upcoming trial will be the first time the drug is tested in patients with multiple sclerosis. Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity that has been shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of MS, in preclinical models. The trial’s progression marks a critical milestone for the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., which focuses on the research and development of the compound.

Durkacz also highlighted the commercial opportunity surrounding unbuzzd(TM), a product designed to accelerate alcohol metabolism. He noted that Quantum BioPharma owns approximately 20% of Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., the company behind the product, and holds a 7% royalty stream on sales until payments to Quantum total $250 million. After that threshold, the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum invented UNBUZZD(TM) and spun out its over-the-counter version to Unbuzzd, which is led by industry veterans. The company retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses.

The dual focus on a clinical-stage asset for neurodegenerative disorders and a consumer-facing wellness product underscores Quantum BioPharma’s strategy of building a diverse portfolio. While Lucid-MS targets a serious medical condition with significant unmet need, unbuzzd(TM) addresses the large and growing market for alcohol misuse solutions. The Phase 2 trial for Lucid-MS represents a key inflection point, as positive results could validate the drug’s mechanism and open the door to further development. Meanwhile, the royalty and equity stake in Unbuzzd provide a potential revenue stream that could fund ongoing research without relying solely on external financing.

For investors, the update offers visibility into two distinct value drivers. The Lucid-MS program, if successful, could position Quantum as a player in the multiple sclerosis treatment landscape, where new therapies that promote myelin repair are in high demand. The unbuzzd(TM) royalty structure, with a cap on the 7% rate, aligns Quantum’s interests with Unbuzzd’s sales performance while retaining long-term upside through the perpetual 3% royalty. As of March 31, 2026, Quantum’s ownership in Unbuzzd stood at 19.84%.
