SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts AG, a Salzgitter, Germany-based developer and manufacturer of mission-critical mobile mast systems for military and defense applications, has signed a contract with a European defense prime customer representing an agreed net sales volume of approximately EUR 70 million. The signing marks the successful conversion from a frame order to a fixed order and significantly increases SMAG’s fixed order backlog.
The contract is already the second large contract signed in 2026 with the same customer and includes an agreed revenue realization period from 2028 to 2035. SMAG’s mast components will be integrated in two steps into the overall system for use in a mission-critical mobile communication infrastructure. Due to confidentiality obligations, no further information regarding the customer can be disclosed.
The new order adds to SMAG’s already growing fixed order backlog, which increased by 30% in the first six months of 2026 to EUR 182 million as of June 30, 2026. The additional EUR 70 million further drives this positive development and provides additional visibility on future growth. For a company that generates substantially all of its net sales from defense, the contract underscores its position as a trusted partner in the defense supply chain.
Ulrich Feindt, Chief Executive Officer of SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts AG, said, “We are extremely proud of signing this large contract with one of our key customers, we are in business for more than 20 years. This marks another landmark step to consistently capitalize on the significant growth opportunities ahead of us for the benefit of our shareholders.”
The deal matters because it highlights the sustained demand for specialized military communication infrastructure in Europe. With 15 NATO militaries among its customers and relationships with more than 50 defense primes, OEMs, and government agencies worldwide, SMAG occupies a niche in self-supporting, guy-wire free mobile antenna mast systems. The long revenue realization period, stretching to 2035, offers SMAG and its investors a rare degree of long-term predictability in a sector often subject to budget cycles and geopolitical shifts.
Founded in 1974, SMAG employs approximately 170 people and remains a leading European specialist manufacturer in its field. The contract signing follows the company’s pattern of deepening relationships with existing customers, as evidenced by this being the second major award from the same client in a single year. For the defense industry, the deal signals continued investment in mobile, mission-critical communication systems that can be rapidly deployed and are resilient in challenging environments. As European defense budgets remain under pressure to modernize and expand capabilities, SMAG’s order backlog growth positions it as a beneficiary of these trends.
