Incannex Healthcare Inc. (NasdaqGM: IXHL) has moved its lead candidate IHL-42X from regulatory preparation into active clinical execution, according to a new coverage update from Stonegate Capital Partners. The Dallas-based capital markets advisory firm said the first patient has been dosed in the DReAMzz study, a Phase 2 trial evaluating the cannabinoid-based therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
The trial is enrolling approximately 120 patients across nine dose combinations at 14 U.S. sites, with completion expected in mid-2027. Stonegate noted that the study is specifically designed to refine the dose ratio ahead of a planned Phase 3 program, rather than replicate the efficacy work of the earlier RePOSA trial. In the firm’s view, the next several quarters should be measured primarily by enrollment cadence, dose optimization, and whether DReAMzz supports a more clearly defined Phase 3 design rather than near-term profit-and-loss trends. That sequencing, Stonegate said, should improve confidence in dose selection and Phase 3 trial design before Incannex commits to the higher development spending associated with late-stage studies.
Financially, Incannex reported $68.4 million in unrestricted cash as of September 24. Management says this balance supports at least 12 months of planned spending, though the company’s 10-K explicitly states that substantial additional funding will be required beyond that period. Stonegate described the balance sheet as meaningfully reducing near-term financing pressure, but not eliminating longer-term capital requirements. For investors, the update shifts the focus from balance-sheet risk to clinical execution risk, particularly the pace of patient enrollment and the clarity of the path to a Phase 3 trial.
The coverage update also highlights a clearer pipeline prioritization. PSX-001 remains the principal secondary clinical asset. Meanwhile, the Australian Phase 2 study of IHL-675A in rheumatoid arthritis was terminated due to recruitment challenges and produced insufficient data to assess efficacy or safety. As a result, Stonegate said the equity story is increasingly concentrated around IHL-42X and the eventual transition from DReAMzz to Phase 3. That concentration raises the stakes for the sleep apnea program, making the next set of clinical milestones critical to the company’s valuation.
