The DFW Car & Toy Museum has been named a Best of Texas winner in the Museum category by Guide to Texas, the museum announced. The annual Best of Texas awards allow readers to nominate and vote for their favorite Texas businesses and organizations, with winners selected primarily based on voting results that are reviewed for validity and verified.
For the Fort Worth museum, the recognition carries special weight because it came directly from visitors. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for us,” said Ron Sturgeon, founder of the DFW Car & Toy Museum. “We built this museum because we wanted people to have a place where they could see incredible cars and toys, learn something, have fun and simply enjoy themselves. To have Texans recognize us with this award means a tremendous amount to us.”
The award matters beyond a single trophy. It signals that a relatively new attraction, which opened at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth in March 2025, has quickly become a destination for car enthusiasts, toy collectors, families and travelers across North Texas. The museum’s collection began as Sturgeon’s personal passion in the 1980s, when he started collecting toys and later expanded to full-size automobiles. That collection grew to more than 200 cars and more than 3,000 toys and collectibles, originally housed in Haltom City before moving to its current Fort Worth location.
Today, visitors can explore an ever-changing array of European classics, American automobiles, Japanese cars, race cars, celebrity vehicles, unusual and quirky automobiles, vintage toys, model cars, robots and antique German toys. Perhaps the biggest surprise for many first-time guests is that admission is free. The museum was designed to be accessible to everyone, whether a lifelong car enthusiast, a serious collector, a parent looking for a family activity or simply someone curious about what is inside.
The Best of Texas designation represents the highest statewide winner designation in the Guide to Texas program, which recognizes businesses across numerous categories throughout Texas. For the museum, being honored in the Museum category reflects support from the people it was built for: its visitors and the broader Texas community. “We don’t take this for granted,” Sturgeon said. “Every person who visits, tells a friend, posts a photo, leaves a review or votes for us helps us continue building something special here in Fort Worth. We are very thankful.”
The museum has also become a gathering place for North Texas. It hosts events every weekend, bringing together car clubs, collectors, families and enthusiasts from throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area. From car shows and specialty gatherings to toy events and community activities, there is always something different happening. The venue also offers flexible event spaces for private parties, corporate gatherings, club events, meetings and celebrations.
Located near Meacham Airport and I-35W, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with final entry at 5 p.m. It welcomes families, car enthusiasts, toy collectors and well-behaved dogs. With more than 200 cars, thousands of toys and collectibles, free admission and year-round events, the museum invites both longtime supporters and first-time visitors to see what Texas voted for.
