Firon Marketing, a Generative Engine Optimization agency, released the second phase of its AI Readiness Audit on October 2, 2026. The study examined 24 established direct-to-consumer brands across apparel, skincare, supplements, home goods, food and beverage, and baby and family categories. It found that not a single brand carried the complete set of structured data signals that AI assistants rely on to source and verify product recommendations.
The audit measured three specific signals: FAQPage schema, which allows AI systems to extract a brand’s own answers to common customer questions; Organization schema with a sameAs property, which gives AI systems a verified path to cross-reference a brand against its social profiles and press coverage; and Product schema with an AggregateRating value, which supplies the price, availability, and review data that AI shopping surfaces use to rank one product against another. Zero brands had all three. Zero brands had any one of the three on every audited page.
Additional findings were equally stark. No brand in the sample published FAQ schema, despite several running visible question-and-answer sections in plain text on their homepages. Two brands carried Organization schema but left the sameAs property empty, meaning AI systems could see that a company existed without being able to verify which company it was. Page speed failures were universal. Of the 22 brands returning measurable lab data, all failed Google’s Largest Contentful Paint threshold of 2.5 seconds. The average LCP across the full sample was 17.4 seconds, and the slowest homepage recorded 54.51 seconds. In the August batch, average Total Blocking Time reached 13.9 seconds against a 0.2-second standard, and the average homepage transferred 26.5 megabytes. Every brand in that batch loaded at least 25 third-party scripts, with three loading more than 80.
“Every brand in this study has a marketing team, an agency, and a budget,” said Alex Jordan, Founder and CEO of Firon Marketing. “What none of them has is a machine-readable identity. AI assistants do not browse a website the way a shopper does. They parse it. When someone asks an AI assistant for the best organic baby food or the best mushroom coffee, the model is reading structured data to decide which brands are verifiable enough to name. A brand with no schema is not losing that comparison. It was never entered into it.”
Firon argues that the gap is structural rather than competitive. Because no brand in the sample has the necessary signals, the category has no leader in AI recommendation. The first brands to publish complete structured data stand to capture citation share across an entire vertical before competitors recognize the shift. The firm’s AI Readiness Audit tool is available to help brands assess their own readiness.
