The TRATON GROUP increased its total unit sales by 10% year-over-year to 78,900 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, according to preliminary figures. The increase was primarily driven by significantly stronger customer demand in the US, marking an acceleration in sales momentum after a slow start to the year and 4% growth in the second quarter. Cumulative unit sales for the first nine months of 2026 reached 230,400 vehicles, 3% above the prior-year level.
International Motors recorded a 48% year-over-year increase in third-quarter unit sales, more than offsetting a decline in the first half of 2026. The US market has recently seen a strong recovery in customer demand, and International’s nine-month unit sales were 3% above the prior-year level. This performance underscores the importance of the North American market to TRATON’s overall growth.
Scania Vehicles & Services saw a 3% increase in third-quarter unit sales, supported by the ramp-up of production at its new plant in Rugao, China, and the government-supported “Move Brasil” loan program in Brazil. For the first nine months, Scania’s unit sales were 1% above the prior-year period. MAN Truck & Bus posted a slight 1% decrease in the third quarter, as positive truck business was offset by declines in bus and van operations; however, its nine-month unit sales were 5% above the prior-year level. Volkswagen Truck & Bus (VWTB) recorded a 5% increase in the third quarter, also benefiting from the Brazilian loan program, though its nine-month sales declined 1% due to a weak first quarter.
All-electric vehicle sales showed mixed results. Total battery-electric unit sales fell 6% in the third quarter to 770 vehicles, but rose 29% in the first nine months to 2,670 vehicles. Scania’s electric vehicle sales jumped 55% in the quarter and 69% in the nine-month period, while MAN’s electric sales increased 32% and 36%, respectively. International’s electric sales dropped 72% in the quarter and 8% over nine months, and VWTB’s electric sales surged 375% in the quarter but were flat over nine months.
The results highlight TRATON’s ability to capitalize on regional demand shifts, particularly in the US, while managing uneven performances across its brands. The company will publish its 9M 2026 Interim Statement on October 28, 2026, available at https://ir.traton.com/en/publications. For more information, visit www.traton.com.
