Graywind Launches Motorized Arched and Angled Shades for Hard-to-Cover Windows

Graywind, a provider of customized window treatments, has introduced Motorized Arched & Angled Shades, a new line of operable cellular shades built specifically for non-rectangular windows. The Santa Clara-based company said the system is designed for arches, triangles and trapezoids, giving these openings light control, insulation and smart operation that standard products typically cannot provide.

The announcement addresses a persistent gap in the window-treatment market: while custom shades can approximate curves or angles, they are often fixed and offer limited light control. Many treatments for non-rectangular windows remain stationary or manual, and conventional motorized shades cannot adapt straight travel to windows whose dimensions change across the opening. Graywind said it is among the few manufacturers offering motorized cellular shades for arched and angled windows.

Graywind’s approach begins with geometry. Each shade is custom-built to measured outlines, so its cellular material, pleats and operating assembly follow the glass while remaining operable. The company extends operable smart shading to arch, elongated arch, triangle, elongated triangle, trapezoid and isosceles trapezoid forms, with each product engineered for its specific height, slope, symmetry and movement.

The cellular construction also contributes to energy performance. The honeycomb structure creates insulating air pockets that help reduce heat transfer through architectural glazing. Blackout fabrics strengthen sunlight exclusion and room darkening, while light-filtering choices preserve daylight. Made-to-measure production is intended to create a cleaner fit with fewer gaps than cut-to-fit inserts.

Motorization addresses the access problem common to vaulted rooms, gable walls and stairwells, where windows are difficult to reach. An optional solar panel supplements charging and reduces the need for manual access, making these hard-to-reach windows easier to operate.

The Motorized Arched Shades are available at Graywind.com as six made-to-order products. Dimensions, movement, power and smart-control configurations vary by shape and undergo feasibility review before production.

Graywind is a custom window-treatment brand for homes and commercial spaces, offering smart and manual coverings, more than 300 fabrics and compatibility with major North American smart-home systems. The company said its designs are intended to shape light and complement modern interiors.

The launch matters because it moves smart-shade innovation beyond controls and into window geometry. Most recent advances in the category have focused on connectivity and automation without changing the physical limits of what shades can cover. By engineering operable cellular shades for arched and angled openings, Graywind expands the pool of windows that can benefit from motorized light control, insulation and smart-home integration. For homeowners and commercial spaces with architectural glazing, that could mean fewer compromises between design and function.
