TruGolf’s Polymath Acquisition Brings Regulated Tokenization to Main Street Assets

The race to tokenize financial assets is shifting from Wall Street experimentation to real-economy applications, and compliance infrastructure is emerging as the critical battleground. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink expects “every stock, every bond” to eventually settle on a shared, tokenized ledger, while Forbes reports institutions are moving toward a tokenized market that could reach $13 trillion. Treasuries and securities are already moving on-chain, but real-economy assets—equipment, franchises, real estate and private credit—represent the next wave. The obstacle is compliance: any asset carrying securities obligations needs identity verification, transfer restrictions and regulatory controls written directly into the ledger.

TruGolf Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUG) now holds that layer. The company acquired Polymath Research Inc. and its Layer-1 blockchain, Polymesh, which was purpose-built for regulated assets. Less than a week after the acquisition closed, TruGolf’s franchise subsidiary, TruGolf Links Franchising, signed an intercompany agreement with Polymath to provide professional services and move the TruGolf Links capitalization table onto Polymath’s regulated digital securities infrastructure. Earlier this month, Polymath also disclosed that it is exploring a tokenized film investment platform alongside CineCity Studios, extending TruGolf’s reach from golf into entertainment finance.

The moves matter because they demonstrate a practical path for tokenizing assets that have traditionally been difficult to securitize. By embedding compliance into the blockchain itself, Polymesh aims to let issuers tokenize ownership in franchises, equipment or private credit without running afoul of securities laws. TruGolf’s first deployment—tokenizing its own franchise capitalization table—serves as an internal proof of concept before broader commercial rollout.

“Having closed the acquisition, TruGolf now has a foothold in the regulated tokenization and digital securities infrastructure market while still staying rooted in the golf space,” the company said in its announcement, noting it works alongside established players in both sectors, including Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD), Circle Internet Group Inc. (NYSE: CRCL) and Acushnet Holdings Corp. (NYSE: GOLF).

The broader significance is that regulated tokenization may finally be moving from pilot programs to production systems. If TruGolf can successfully tokenize its franchise cap table and expand into film finance, it could provide a template for other small and mid-sized companies seeking to access capital markets through blockchain without sacrificing regulatory compliance. That would mark a meaningful step toward the mainstream adoption that Fink and others have predicted, moving tokenization beyond Wall Street’s balance sheets and into the everyday assets that power local economies.
