Eco Expo Asia 2026 Opens with Record International Participation and Focus on Green Technology

The 21st Eco Expo Asia 2026, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, opened today at AsiaWorld-Expo. Running from 26 to 29 October under the theme “Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future,” the four-day event brings together more than 340 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions, making it a significant platform for international exchange and collaboration in the green sector.

The expo’s importance is underscored by the participation of some 200 senior officials and representatives of semi-official organisations from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Belt and Road and ASEAN countries. Their presence highlights the event’s role in fostering cross-regional cooperation and unlocking business opportunities in the growing green economy. HKTDC Executive Director Sophia Chong noted that Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan and the latest Policy Address both call for building a green and liveable city, injecting fresh momentum into the green sector. She added that international participation has grown this year, with Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam joining for the first time.

The expo features 18 pavilions, including the new ASEAN Pavilion that brings together seven ASEAN countries and 12 green technology ventures presenting solutions in water treatment, circular economy, green finance, green building and environmental products. Returning overseas pavilions include Canada, Italy, Korea and the Netherlands, while Qinghai Province makes its first appearance from the Chinese Mainland. The HKSAR Government booth, formed by the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Environmental Protection Department and nine other departments, introduces a new comprehensive experience zone for green technology organised around four themes, including “Green Flat,” which demonstrates sustainable living concepts.

Aligning with the latest decarbonisation policies, the expo centres on four areas: “Green Energy in Motion,” “Frontier Green Tech,” “Building for a Greener City” and “From Waste to Worth.” Notable exhibits include EcoCeres Limited, the world’s second largest sustainable aviation fuel producer, showcasing SAF and hydrotreated vegetable oil produced from waste feedstocks. The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Pavilion features the slimmest wall-mounted DC Fast EV charger currently on the market. About 30 start-ups and university spin-offs are presented under “Frontier Green Tech,” including high-strength bacterial cellulose films upcycled from tea waste by The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Over 80 government, industry and academic leaders will speak across more than 30 forums and thematic sessions. The flagship Eco Asia Conference explores green development from multiple perspectives, while the 7th Hydrogen Economy Forum on 28 October will discuss the application of green fuels and energy storage technologies. The final day, Public Day, offers free admission to deepen public understanding of sustainability.

The expo also supports Chinese Mainland green enterprises going global through the new GoGlobal Connect Zone, leveraging Hong Kong’s professional services. A “GoGlobal Seminar” tomorrow will discuss how Hong Kong can integrate green finance, cross-border infrastructure expertise and certification standards to accelerate expansion into ASEAN markets. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo runs concurrently at AsiaWorld-Expo, and the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) opens tomorrow at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Free shuttle bus services are offered between venues, with details available at https://www.hktdc.com/event/ecoexpoasia/en/travel-to-fairground-awe.
