SBF Secures €6 Million Tram Order from PESA for Krakow

SBF AG, a publicly traded specialist in rolling stock, lighting, electromechanics, and sensor technology, has received a new order from PESA, a leading Polish rolling stock manufacturer, to outfit 90 new trams for Krakow. The contract is valued at approximately 6 million euros and covers vehicles in three- and four-car configurations. Production is scheduled to begin with the first delivery planned for March 2027, and deliveries are expected to continue through 2030.

Under the agreement, SBF will supply the interior ceilings—including air conditioning ducts—interior lighting, and the support structure for the new tram platform. The order represents the second joint project between SBF and PESA, following a tram project for Leipzig. SBF indicated it sees potential in the collaboration for further projects in tram interior design.

Robert Stocklinger, Member of the Management Board of SBF AG, said: “Our partnership with PESA is a strong testament to the reliability and quality of our services. This expands our customer base to include yet another leading European vehicle manufacturer. The contract demonstrates that our system expertise in interior headliners and lighting is in demand even on new vehicle platforms.”

The deal matters because it strengthens SBF’s position as a Tier 1 systems supplier to the rolling stock industry and broadens its reach among European original equipment manufacturers. It also underscores the company’s strategy of leveraging its German and European manufacturing base—where development and production take place almost exclusively at its own facilities—to win contracts in the critical infrastructure sector, where vertical integration is increasingly a key criterion for clients. For PESA, the contract ensures a reliable supplier for interior systems as it ramps up production for Krakow’s tram network.

SBF’s “Rolling Stock” business segment supplies complex interior, ceiling, and lighting systems “Made in Germany” to leading rolling stock manufacturers and is emerging as a systems partner for safety-critical interior functions. The company’s other segments include public and industrial lighting, with intelligent LED systems for infrastructure applications, and sensor technology and electromechanics, developed and manufactured at its Flensburg location.
