JCB International Co., Ltd., the international operations subsidiary of Japan’s only international payment brand, and Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company (Hanoi Metro) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 1, 2026, to collaborate on introducing JCB transit across Hanoi’s urban railway network. The service is scheduled to launch in early 2027, allowing JCB Cardmembers to tap their contactless cards or compatible devices directly at metro fare gates for a fast and seamless travel experience.
The agreement marks a significant step in JCB’s efforts to expand contactless payment solutions for public transportation and support the development of cashless payment in Vietnam. For international visitors, particularly travelers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other markets, the service promises greater convenience by eliminating the need to purchase separate transit tickets or carry cash when using Hanoi’s metro.
Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International Co., Ltd., said, “JCB International is delighted to collaborate with Hanoi Metro to introduce JCB transit in Hanoi. We hope this service will provide greater convenience to JCB Cardmembers and contribute to the development of a modern and cashless public transportation ecosystem in Vietnam.”
The collaboration underscores the growing role of digital payments in Southeast Asia’s public transit systems. By enabling direct tap-and-go fare payment, JCB and Hanoi Metro aim to streamline the passenger experience and reduce reliance on cash, aligning with broader efforts to modernize urban infrastructure. The move also strengthens JCB’s presence in Vietnam, where the brand seeks to deepen its acceptance network and cater to the increasing number of international tourists.
JCB, which launched its card business in Japan in 1961 and began global expansion in 1981, maintains an acceptance network of about 72 million merchants worldwide and has more than 181 million cardmembers, primarily in Asia. The company has formed alliances with hundreds of banks and financial institutions globally to expand its merchant coverage and cardmember base. As a comprehensive payment solution provider, JCB commits to delivering responsive, high-quality service and products to customers worldwide. More information is available at www.global.jcb/en/.
