Pure Flix Familia Launches Novelitas™, Bringing Faith-Based Microdramas to Latino Streaming Audiences

Pure Flix Familia, the Spanish-language streaming service recently launched by Great American Media, is expanding its programming with the debut of Novelitas™, a channel dedicated to microdramas with stories rooted in faith, family, love and Latino culture. The announcement, distributed through NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE, marks the service’s first dedicated push into the vertical storytelling format designed for cell-phone viewing.

Leading the launch is Alquilé Un Novio Para Navidad (I Rented a Boyfriend for Christmas), an original Spanish-language Christmas romantic comedy produced in Ecuador by Minivela in collaboration with Red Minds Films. The series combines romance, Christmas traditions and faith themes in a vertical format. Novelitas™ premieres with three Minivela productions debuting on the Pure Flix Familia streaming service.

The move matters because it brings faith- and family-centered content into the microdrama genre, a format that has grown rapidly on mobile devices but has largely been associated with romance and suspense. By focusing on faith and family, Novelitas™ allows the pace and duration of episodes to respond to the emotional needs of each story, according to the company. The result, it says, is a different kind of vertical entertainment: stories that remain captivating and suited to binge-watching while allowing audiences to connect more deeply with themes such as love, forgiveness, cultural identity, family relationships and faith.

“Novelitas expands our commitment to Latino families with stories that reflect their culture, traditions and faith,” said Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Great American Media. “Through our alliance with Minivela, we bring that commitment to a format designed for the cell phone that offers audiences another way to enjoy uplifting entertainment.”

Manny Ruiz, CEO of Minivela, said Latino culture offers a wealth of stories about love, family and belonging. “With these three productions, we bring those connections to the vertical storytelling format, led by a Christmas romantic comedy that puts faith and family at the center,” he said.

The premiere lineup also includes Cholita Takes L.A., a bilingual story about a Bolivian fashionista and lucha libre queen who travels to Los Angeles to reunite with her ailing Mexican-American grandmother and learns that staying true to her roots can be her greatest strength. Rounding out the slate is Sabrina, which follows a 15-year-old who resists her family’s plans for an elaborate quinceañera and finds herself caught between tradition and her desire to define her own identity.

The launch signals that the future of microdramas may include not only romance and suspense but also uplifting, emotionally resonant stories that celebrate the values, relationships and traditions that matter most to families. It also creates new opportunities for filmmakers and storytellers who want to bring faith- and family-centered stories to a rapidly growing entertainment format. Novelitas™ is available on Pure Flix Familia at a subscription price of $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year.
