ITASCA Australia will have a new general manager starting January 1, 2027, with David Wines set to succeed Glenn Sharrock, the company announced. Wines, currently a principal with the firm, was selected after a competitive recruitment process that considered both internal and external candidates. The appointment was announced by ITASCA International, the employee-owned engineering consulting and software development company specializing in geomechanics, hydrogeology and geochemistry, engineering geology, and numerical simulation.
The change matters for clients in mining, civil, energy and environmental sectors because it reshapes how one of the region’s specialist geomechanics consultancies delivers technical expertise. Sharrock is stepping down from the general manager role to focus full-time on consulting as a senior principal with ITASCA Australia, a move the company says gives clients more direct access to his engineering and consulting expertise. Wines, meanwhile, brings more than two decades of industry experience, with extensive work supporting open-pit mining operations. He combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, and has served on the board of directors of ITASCA International, Inc., most recently as board chair.
Jonny Sjöberg, chief executive officer of ITASCA International, said the transition benefits both the team and clients by pairing experienced executive leadership with expanded access to world-class consulting expertise. “David’s leadership experience, technical expertise, and commitment to our clients make him exceptionally well suited to lead ITASCA Australia,” Sjöberg said.
For clients who have worked with Wines on open-pit mining projects, the company says they can expect continued access to ITASCA’s deep technical expertise and specialized consulting resources. The leadership transition is also intended to support ITASCA Australia’s continued growth by expanding senior consulting capacity, strengthening executive leadership and maintaining continuity for existing client relationships.
Wines said he is honored to take on the role and to continue building on the foundation Sharrock and the team have created. “ITASCA Australia has a talented team and a strong reputation for technical excellence,” he said. “I look forward to supporting our clients, developing our people and helping guide the company’s continued growth.”
The appointment positions ITASCA Australia to pursue regional growth while keeping senior engineering talent close to client projects, a combination the company frames as central to its next phase.
