Windy City Wire, a manufacturer of low-voltage wire and cable, announced that members of its public safety team will attend the Safer Buildings Coalition’s School Safety Tech and Wireless Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, November 17, 2026. The full-day event focuses on technology, best practices, and practical guidance for safer schools, covering topics such as indoor mapping, panic alert systems, two-way radio and emergency responder communication enhancement systems (ERCES), surveillance, medical response, and wireless connectivity. Attendees can earn continuing education credits, including CEUs, CPDs, CECs, and CDEs.
The seminar comes as school safety requirements continue to expand across the United States. Tennessee is among the states that have enacted Alyssa’s Law, which calls for silent panic alarms in K-12 schools. While such alarms can alert authorities, reliable in-building radio coverage is also needed so that first responders can communicate effectively once they arrive on scene. That combination of alerting and communication infrastructure is central to the broader school safety discussion the seminar aims to address.
Windy City Wire supports public safety DAS system projects with its DAS cable, including the SmartGUARD line of 1/2-inch, plenum-rated coaxial cable designed for public safety bands such as VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz, P25, and FirstNet. The company also provides rough order of magnitude bills of materials, coordinates OEM certification for public safety DAS deployments with manufacturers including RFS, ADRF, Westell, and GWave, and offers industry education on DAS technologies and ERCES requirements.
Company representatives Darin Skyles, CTS; Gabriel Guevara; and Jim Bowen will be in Nashville to connect with school safety, fire, and wireless professionals about first responder DAS wire and cable. Their presence underscores the role that cabling and infrastructure play in ensuring that emergency communication systems function reliably when they are needed most.
The announcement matters because it highlights the often-overlooked physical layer of school safety technology. Panic alarms and other alerting tools are only part of the equation; without dependable in-building radio coverage, first responders can face communication gaps during emergencies. By participating in the seminar, Windy City Wire is positioning its DAS cabling products and education efforts within the expanding market for school safety infrastructure, a sector likely to see continued regulatory attention and investment as more states consider laws similar to Alyssa’s Law.
