BRAIN Biotech AG announced that Dr. Sven K. Weber will take over as CEO on October 1, 2026, succeeding Adriaan Moelker, who is retiring after six years at the helm. The appointment, made by the Supervisory Board, marks a strategic move to bolster the company’s position in the specialty enzyme market.
Dr. Weber, 44, brings extensive experience from BASF Group, where he most recently served as Vice President and led the global enzyme business unit. Under his leadership, the unit achieved innovation-driven, profitable growth with significant increases in revenue and earnings. His background also includes roles at Chemetall GmbH and hte GmbH, as well as a start at Merck Group. He holds a diploma and doctorate in chemistry from the University of Heidelberg and completed an executive program at SGMI Management Institute in St. Gallen.
Adriaan Moelker, who has led BRAIN Biotech since 2020, will step down at the end of his contract on September 30, 2026, and continue as a senior advisor until January 2027. The Supervisory Board thanked Moelker for repositioning the company as an integrated enzyme manufacturer and monetizing projects from the BRAINBioIncubator.
Dr. Michael Majerus, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, expressed confidence in Weber: “With Dr. Weber, we have brought on board an internationally experienced leader with proven expertise in the industrial enzyme business. He will continue implementing the company’s strategic direction, tap into additional growth potential, and accelerate its operational implementation.”
Weber outlined his vision: “BRAIN Biotech has a strong technological foundation and excellent scientific expertise. Together with the group’s employees, I intend to build on this to accelerate growth, sustainably strengthen profitability, and bring innovative products to market more quickly. My goal is to develop BRAIN into a leading provider of specialty enzymes and tap into additional growth potential through the BRAINBioIncubator.”
The leadership change comes as BRAIN Biotech, a specialist in enzymes for food and life sciences, reported revenue of €49.6 million in fiscal 2024/25 with around 280 employees. The company operates fermentation facilities in the UK and production sites across Europe and the US, and is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (BRAIN Biotech).
The transition is expected to provide continuity in strategy while bringing fresh perspective to accelerate growth in the competitive enzyme market.
