The Kent, Washington-based company, which has been delivering groceries since 1920, is partnering with Blue Dog Bakery to give away one prize pack each week throughout August. Each winner will receive a Blue Dog Bakery Prize Pack and a $50 Smith Brothers grocery delivery credit.

Key tips include never leaving pets in a parked car, even with windows cracked, as temperatures can become dangerously hot quickly. Pet owners are also advised to test pavement with the back of their hand before walks, since hot surfaces can burn paws. Early morning or evening walks are recommended when surfaces are cooler.

Creating cool spaces, such as shaded areas or a shallow kiddie pool, can help pets beat the heat. Additionally, pet owners should watch for signs of overheating, including heavy panting, excessive drooling, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heartbeat, or difficulty walking.
During wildfire season, which affects much of the region, it’s especially important to shorten walks and vigorous play during the hottest parts of the day. Paying attention to a pet’s comfort and energy level can prevent heat-related illnesses.
