Florida State University student Julia Pieri has been awarded the Community Impact Through Animal Service Scholarship by Blakeley Car Accident & Personal Injury Lawyers. The $2,000 scholarship recognizes students who make a difference in the lives of animals in their communities. Pieri’s story of stepping in to care for a foster dog named Zeke moved the selection committee.
Pieri took over responsibility for Zeke after her friend, who was his original foster parent, fell ill. Recognizing the critical role that foster networks play for rescue animals, she ensured Zeke maintained stability and routine during a vulnerable transition. “Helping care for Zeke also showed me how important foster networks are for rescue animals,” Pieri said. “Foster dogs rely on stability, routine, and kindness while they transition from uncertain pasts to hopeful futures. By stepping in while my friend was sick, I was able to help maintain that stability for him.”
Beyond her animal welfare efforts, Pieri is pursuing dual degrees in Accounting and Economics with a minor in Commercial Entrepreneurship at Florida State University. She is also active in pageants and advocates for breast cancer research, and volunteers with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Her professional trajectory includes a summer 2026 internship as a Receivable Intern at SBA Communications and a planned Tax Intern position at CohnReznick in 2027.
After graduation, Pieri intends to pursue a Master’s degree and sit for the CPA exam, with the goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant specializing in tax and public accounting. She hopes her diverse experiences will ease her transition into the profession.
