Viromed Medical AG, a medical technology company specializing in cold plasma technology, announced on Wednesday the immediate appointment of Prof. Dr. Michael A. Rubhausen to its Medical Advisory Board. The physicist and spectroscopy expert brings extensive scientific expertise that is expected to enhance the company’s research capabilities in the intersection of material properties, spectroscopy, and cold plasma.

Prof. Rubhausen currently heads the Optics Working Group at the Institute of Nanostructure and Solid-State Physics at Universität Hamburg, where he also serves as Managing Director. He is affiliated with the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL), and his research focuses on advanced spectroscopic techniques such as Raman spectroscopy and ellipsometry. These methods are applied to study superconductors, quantum materials, and biological and inorganic samples at large-scale research facilities like PETRA III and FLASH.
His interdisciplinary work has produced over 180 publications with approximately 4,000 citations, including contributions to leading journals such as Physical Review Letters, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, Nature Chemistry, Nature Physics, Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, and Nature Communications. Additionally, he develops AI-supported analysis workflows for complex datasets, a skill that may prove valuable in interpreting the intricate data generated by cold plasma interactions.
