SS Innovations International (NASDAQ: SSII), a developer of surgical robotic technologies, has announced the launch of Sri Lanka’s first robotic cardiac surgery program at Kings Hospital Colombo. The program utilizes the SSi Mantra 3.0 surgical robotic system and represents a significant step in expanding access to advanced robotic-assisted cardiac care in the region.
The inaugural procedure was a robotic-assisted left internal mammary artery (LIMA) takedown, performed by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, founder and chairman of SS Innovations, alongside Kings Hospital cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Rajitha DeSilva. This milestone was highlighted in a recent company video, which also noted that Kings Hospital has completed more than 25 robotic procedures in just three weeks, demonstrating rapid adoption and early success of the program.
The launch matters because it underscores the growing global footprint of SS Innovations and the increasing utilization of its surgical robotic systems. According to the company, as of the end of the second quarter, there were 224 cumulative SSi Mantra installations across 12 countries. The company’s second-quarter revenue reached $13.9 million, while robotic procedures increased 143% year over year to 2,528, indicating rising utilization of the installed base. These figures suggest that hospitals worldwide are increasingly integrating robotic-assisted surgery into their practices, potentially improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
For Sri Lanka, the introduction of robotic cardiac surgery could enhance the quality of cardiac care available domestically, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for advanced procedures. It also positions Kings Hospital Colombo as a regional leader in adopting innovative medical technologies.
SS Innovations is pursuing regulatory expansion, with the company seeking U.S. FDA clearance and European CE marking for the SSi Mantra system. Such approvals would open major markets and further accelerate adoption, reinforcing the company’s competitive position in the global surgical robotics industry.

This announcement reflects broader trends in healthcare, where robotic-assisted surgery is becoming more prevalent due to its potential for minimally invasive procedures, reduced recovery times, and improved precision. As SS Innovations continues to expand its global reach, the successful implementation in Sri Lanka could serve as a model for other emerging markets.
