A Connecticut personal injury law firm has resolved a motorcycle crash case for $3.25 million, securing the settlement before trial for a client who suffered catastrophic injuries when a pickup truck crossed his path in Prospect, Connecticut.
The client, a 35-year-old machinist, was riding his motorcycle in August 2024 when the truck pulled out from a private drive. The motorcycle struck the driver’s side front end, catapulting the rider into the air. He landed approximately 28 feet away in the opposite lane and sustained severe injuries, including eviscerating abdominal wounds, broken ribs, and a fractured femur.
Liability appeared straightforward because the defendant pulled directly into the motorcyclist’s path. Nevertheless, the defense raised multiple challenges, including allegations that the client had been riding too fast and recklessly.
“These cases often come down to who can tell the more credible story about what actually happened in the seconds before impact,” said Attorney Bruce Newman. “Once our accident reconstruction experts laid out exactly how this collision occurred, it became clear our client wasn’t the one at fault here.”
Newman, a Personal injury attorney with Brown, Paindiris & Scott, LLP, used accident reconstruction experts to build a case strong enough that the defendants ultimately agreed to pay the amount statutorily demanded by the firm rather than proceed to trial. The result was the $3.25 million settlement.
The case highlights the importance of expert reconstruction in motorcycle accident litigation, where physical evidence can be disputed and riders are often unfairly blamed for their own injuries. By demonstrating precisely how the collision occurred, the firm overcame the defense’s narrative and achieved a recovery that reflects the severity of the client’s harm.
