Leadership Coach Dr. Catherine Oleksiw Says Recognizing Hidden Gifts Is Key to Organizational Success

Every person has a gift, but many do not recognize it in themselves. That belief has guided Dr. Catherine A. Oleksiw through a career that includes coaching executives, advising nonprofit organizations, teaching graduate students, and chairing dissertation committees. Now, as she prepares for her next chapter, she aims to broaden her reach through leadership coaching, keynote speaking, and management consulting.

Dr. Oleksiw is the founder of Measured Transitions LLC, where she works with organizations on leadership, organizational change, performance, and evaluation. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Measurement and Evaluation from Columbia University and has spent the past six years in academic leadership at The Chicago School. Her approach combines a belief in human potential with a rigorous focus on measurable results.

“My career has never followed a straight line,” Dr. Oleksiw said. “I’ve simply followed opportunities where I believed I could make an impact. Every experience taught me something new, but one truth has remained constant: relationships matter. People are the greatest resource we have.”

That philosophy drives her work with executives, emerging leaders, entrepreneurs, and doctoral students. She describes her method as creating “safe space”—an environment where people can ask difficult questions, admit uncertainty, and be challenged while feeling respected. From there, she guides them through “the stretch,” moving beyond familiar patterns to take thoughtful risks and accept greater responsibility.

“My goal is to create environments where people can lean into who they are, become comfortable with their gifts, and have the confidence to use those gifts in service of others,” she said.

Dr. Oleksiw’s background in measurement and evaluation means she pairs inspiration with accountability. She asks what is actually working, what is changing, and whether good intentions are producing meaningful results. This combination has shaped her work in leadership coaching, organizational consulting, dissertation advising, and performance evaluation.

She also believes leadership development should not wait for an executive title. Her work includes high-potential professionals preparing for responsibilities they may not yet hold. By helping leaders become stronger, she argues, organizations become stronger and can serve more people—a ripple effect that inspires her.

Looking ahead, Dr. Oleksiw plans to expand her impact through keynote speaking and management consulting, focusing on trust, resilience, purpose, authenticity, and psychological safety. She hopes to reach organizations and individuals who know they are capable of more but may not yet see the next step.

For Dr. Oleksiw, success is not measured by applause but by lives changed after the conversation. Former students and doctoral candidates often tell her she made the difference between walking away and finishing. Helping people recognize what they carry within themselves has quietly connected every chapter of her career.

“I want people to recognize the gifts they already have, believe those gifts matter, and have the courage to share them with the world,” she said.
