CAHEC has released its fourth annual ESG Impact Report, detailing progress in sustainability, community investment, and organizational resilience during 2025. The report expands its scope to include CAHEC and its affiliates—CAHEC Management, Inc. (CMI) and CAHEC Properties Corporation (CPC)—offering a more complete picture of how the Raleigh, North Carolina-based organization advances its mission of thriving communities with affordable housing and equitable opportunities.
A central feature of the 2025 report is a refreshed materiality assessment that incorporated input from internal and external stakeholders across all three entities. The assessment reinforces community impact as a core priority and provides a stronger foundation for CAHEC’s ESG strategy, according to the report. CAHEC also continued voluntary alignment with leading frameworks, including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB FN-AC), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
The report’s financial and social highlights point to significant scale. CAHEC New Markets received a $75 million New Markets Tax Credit allocation from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund, bringing cumulative NMTC awards to $345 million and investments to $270 million. Those investments support high-distress communities, with actual and projected outcomes including more than 3,500 jobs created, 5,400 student seats, 1,650 childcare spots, and 662 shelter and recovery beds.
CAHEC’s core syndication and community investment work also showed strong results. The organization raised $162.1 million in equity, syndicated 39 communities and 1,650 units, awarded $374,100 in community investment grants, and served 4,694 residents. Employee-driven engagement through the Team Outreach program contributed 1,340 volunteer hours across 13 partner organizations.
“Our refreshed materiality assessment confirms what drives us,” said Dana Boole, President and CEO of CAHEC. “Community is still at the core of everything we do, and our accountability to stakeholders matters more than ever. This report provides a stronger foundation to measure what matters and illustrate the full scope of CAHEC’s impact.”
The implications extend beyond a single year’s reporting. By aligning voluntarily with GRI, SASB, and the UN SDGs, CAHEC is positioning its affordable housing and community development work within globally recognized disclosure standards—an approach that can help attract mission-aligned capital and demonstrate accountability to investors, partners, and residents. The expanded scope of the report, covering affiliates CMI and CPC, also signals that CAHEC’s impact is being measured across property management and development activities, not just tax credit investment.
