GRE Alpha Launches Ultra-Compact 40W Wirelessly Programmable LED Driver for Architectural Lighting

GRE Alpha Electronics has introduced the GCPD040-RF, a 40W constant current LED driver that is smaller than a standard business card and can be programmed wirelessly, the company announced. The driver measures 78 x 40 x 29 mm (3.1 x 1.6 x 1.1 in) and is designed for space-constrained fixtures where smooth, flicker-free dimming is still expected.

The GCPD040-RF can be configured without any cable or power connection to the driver. Using RFID with PC software, manufacturers can program a single driver or a batch on an RFID programming pad, speeding up production line configuration. Alternatively, NFC with a mobile app allows field configuration from a phone, with password-protected write access to prevent unauthorized changes.

Through either method, users can set output current from 200 to 1400mA, along with minimum dim level, dimming curve and other parameters. This means one stocked driver can serve many fixture designs, reducing inventory complexity for lighting manufacturers and installers.

The driver supports 0-10V or 1-10V dimming and offers wirelessly programmable minimum dimming presets (1%, 10%, or Dim-To-Off) and dimming types (Logarithmic or Linear). It is flicker-free and compliant with IEEE 1789 when tested from 50% to 100% of maximum current, according to the company.

Built for reliability, the GCPD040-RF accepts a universal 120-277V AC input and delivers up to 40W of constant current output with a 20-43V DC output range. It reaches up to 87% efficiency, draws less than 0.5W on standby and is IP64 compliant. An NTC input for an external temperature sensor and multiple built-in protection features are also included.

The driver is UL Listed (Class P, Class 2), meets UL 8750 and CSA C22.2, and is RoHS compliant. It also meets EU Ecodesign Regulation 2019/2020 and carries a 5-year warranty.

The GCPD040-RF targets space-constrained fixtures in commercial environments, including recessed and adjustable downlights, track lighting for accent and display, wall-mount sconces, wall-wash uplights, decorative and architectural pendants, and exterior wall-wash and facade lighting.

The launch matters because lighting designers and manufacturers increasingly face tight fixture envelopes while demanding advanced dimming performance and production efficiency. A single compact driver that can be wirelessly reprogrammed for multiple current and dimming settings could streamline manufacturing and field adjustments, reducing the need for multiple SKUs. GRE Alpha, founded in 1989 and headquartered in Hong Kong, manufactures LED power supplies, dimming modules and lighting control accessories. More information is available at www.grealpha.com.
